EpikVoice — Voice Clinical Notes

Why isn’t my voice clinical note transcribing?

Last updated: 2026-05-26

If the voice clinical note isn’t transcribing, check three things in order: microphone permission for pro.epikdoc.ai in your browser, a stable network connection, and that the recording is at least a few seconds long. Most failures are a blocked mic — clicking Allow on the browser permission prompt fixes it instantly.

1. Check microphone permission

The most common cause is a blocked microphone. Browsers ask once per site and remember your answer.

  1. Look at the left side of your browser address bar for a small mic icon. If you see a slash or red dot, the mic is blocked for this site.
  2. Click the icon and choose Allow for pro.epikdoc.ai.
  3. Reload the page and try recording again.
  4. On the EpikDoc Pro mobile app: open your device’s Settings → Apps → EpikDoc → Permissions → Microphone, and turn it on.

2. Check your network

Transcription runs in the cloud, so the device needs a steady internet connection during the recording. If your Wi-Fi or mobile data drops mid-recording, you may see "Recording could not be saved" or an empty transcript.

  • Confirm your device is online — open another tab and try loading any website.
  • Switch to a more reliable connection (clinic Wi-Fi → mobile hotspot, or vice versa).
  • Start a fresh recording. The previous attempt cannot be recovered if the network dropped.

3. Check the recording itself

  • Recordings shorter than 2–3 seconds may come back empty — there isn’t enough audio to transcribe.
  • Speaking far from the microphone or in a very noisy room reduces accuracy. Speak within arm’s length.
  • Recordings over 15 minutes take longer to process. The "Forming your clinical note" banner stays up — give it a couple of minutes before assuming something went wrong.

4. Try a different browser

If the same recording works on Chrome but not Safari, or vice versa, the browser may be too old or have a corrupt audio extension. Update to the latest version and try again.

Still stuck?

If none of these fix it, open a support ticket from the article footer with the patient name and the rough time you tried recording. We can look up what happened on that attempt and tell you exactly what failed.

Common questions

A few questions that come up most often:

  • Does the mobile app work the same way? Yes — the same permission and network checks apply.
  • Can I upload a recording from another app? Yes — see "Uploading a pre-recorded audio file".
  • Are dental terms understood correctly? Yes — see "Tooth numbers and dental terms".
